Things I learned from Research Paper
My research paper this year was about why America entered World War II. One thing I learned was about how bad Germany's economy was leading into the War. Because Germany had lost World War I, they had many many debts, as the Allies made them pay for a lot of the war costs. The problem was that Germany did not have the money or the resources needed to pay for the debts. So the economy was very poor in Germany. Also, spirits were very low after losing the first World War. So when a man, Hitler, came and made them feel good about themselves and proud to be German, they were very susceptible to this. I could never understand how a country could let such an awful man get to power, but now I understand how he changed their whole demeanor and got them fired up about Germany. I also learned (though I didnt put it in my paper) that President Roosevelt may have had a good amount of warning about Pearl Harbor a day or so before it happened. However, they think that he chose to do absolutely nothing. This is either because he saw this as an entrance to the war, or because when they picked the planes up on the radar, they thought it was just planes bringing supplies. Either way, the attack on Pearl Harbor did bring the United States into the War, which turned out to be a good thing.

Connecting to Nature
One thing from nature that I have always felt like I connected with are trees or forests. I love going exploring in places like that. I find any type of place with a lot of trees beautiful. It can just be a regular forest here in Illinois in my back yard. Or it can be the fantastic Redwood forest in California with amazingly high trees. Or the jungle sort of trees that grow in the rainforests of Brazil or Hawaii. Wherever I have gone, there have been unique sort of trees to the area. A lot of times you can tell where you are just by the trees that you see. I've always just found them pretty interesting, and fun to look at and enjoy.
